The predicament didn't happen, but the thought of it might be worth a chuckle. I tried to save some space in my tractor shelter to get more implements in for the winter. So, I put a box scraper in front of a backhoe. To get the tractor and 3ph snow blower inside, I decided I could raise the loader over the scraper and the set the bucket down on the scraper.Yesterday, I went out to diagnosis a tach problem (which turned out to be a broken cable). The first thing I did was to raise the hood. Of course, the loader has to be clear down or up before the hood can be raised on my tractor. So, I started the tractor and lifted the bucket. Oops, while waiting for the engine to warm, I thought 'Oh no, what would happen if the battery was dead and I couldn't start the tractor.' Yikes, I wouldn't be able to raise or drop the bucket. I couldn't tow the tractor out backwards since the bucket was hooked over the scraper. I couldn't pull the scraper forward since the backhoe was in front. The only solution I could see was putting the bucket in float and manually jacking it up, take the float off and then towing the tractor backwards. If the tach cable hadn't broken, I may have found this out at night in the middle of a -20F blizzard, when all I wanted to do was lift the hood so I could connect a battery charger. I can just see myself in the middle of the night looking for blocks and jacks through the dark, cold, wind and snow. And, probably the final coup would be that after I got the bucket raised above the scraper, I couldn't get the truck to do the towing, because I needed to clear the drive with the blower that's on the tractor. Dumb and dumber. Not great for self-esteem having to be saved by a broken tach cable. There must be a lesson here somewhere. The loader goes under the scraper now, but that’s the solution, not the lesson, which I wonder if I’ve learned.
